Guam Symphony Society Hosts -The Music of Amadeus!

If you are a music buff and happen to be in Guam this month, Guam Symphony Society has something to offer, that would be right up your alley – The Music of Amadeus!

Details of Guam Symphony Society’s Music of Amadeus Concert:

Date: April 11 at 7 pm and April 12 at 3 pm
Venue: The Southern High School G.A.T.E. Theater, Santa Rita, Guam.

The Music of Amadeus features music from the movie Amadeus, which tells the story of the brilliant Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, child prodigy, prolific composer, and musician past compare, from the viewpoint of his peer and secret rival, Antonio Salieri. The presentation will feature such masterpieces as Symphony No. 25, Queen of the Night Aria, and Requiem among several other pieces.

The Guam Symphony Society has invited Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts (Silliman University, Philippines), Dr. Elizabeth Susan Vista-Suarez to lead the concert. Dr.Suarez will be the guest conductor and piano soloist for the concert, and will also perform the second movement of the Piano Concerto No. 20 by Mozart.

Since 1976, the Guam Symphony Society has been leading the promotion of fine music in Guam, its orchestra and chorale playing an important role in the music scene of Guam. It is the only organization of its kind in Micronesia and provides opportunities not only for local musicians to explore their talents, but also invites renowned musicians from around the world to be its guest performers. In the process, it presents listeners with a quality symphonic music experience.

The Guam Symphony Orchestra functions under music director Dr. Stephen Bednarzyk, and consists of around 50 dedicated volunteer musicians, most of them from Guam. In addition to local talent, musicians from Saipan, the mainland U.S., Hong Kong, Japan and Korea also join the orchestra at times for special performances.
